In the 17thth minute of the game Lucílio Figueiras who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Patricio Costa struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. Renato Vargas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Venezuela. Ahmet Koralp Tükel kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fredy Montero got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 42nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sporting Clube de Gaya were awarded a corner in the 45th minute after Venezuela's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Fredy Montero took the corner. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lucílio Figueiras stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Sporting Clube de Gaya's Ahmet Koralp Tükel got a free kick in the 51st minute. Tomas Illescas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Renato Vargas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fredy Montero was slow to take the kick. During this time Sporting Clube de Gaya's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Fredy Montero almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant did a great save.
