Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from J.C. Ogden in the 8th minute of the match. Boca Juniors's Roman Rollins played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Agustín Saelices in the 17th minute of play. In the 18th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. After 20 played minutes Boca Juniors got a freekick which was hit by Wilfred Holley. Rich Jean's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 22nd minute of play. 23 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when J.C. Ogden came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Luis Andino might have been able to make a better finish in the 30th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Roman Rollins. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Luis Andino ran back to his position shaking his head. 37 minutes into the match, Boca Juniors's Jason Stuart sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When Boca Juniors's J.C. Ogden in the 38th minute got a chance for a shot 38th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Boca Juniors the free kick. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Luis Andino got a free kick in the 41st minute. Cristian Sancho blasted a shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Roman Rollins having to make a save. Daniel Zorita might have been able to make a better finish in the 45th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Roman Rollins. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Daniel Zorita ran back to his position shaking his head. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Roman Rollins didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Daniel Zorita hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. When Boca Juniors's J.C. After having played for 71 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Brian Herget kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Roman Rollins having to interfere. Thanks to some nice moves Cristian Sancho could shoot a difficult shot in the 77th minute, which Roman Rollins however easily saved by the left post. In the 79th match minute, Boca Juniors was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wilfred Holley to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Boca Juniors's Roman Rollins got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 88thth minute of the game Cyryl Karpinski who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience was convinced that Cyryl Karpinski's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 88th minute of the game. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cyryl Karpinski in the 89th minute of play.
