A nice corner shot did that Agustín Saelices got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Horácio Rossi quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 12th minute of play forced Bayer 04 Leverkusen's goalkeeper Horácio Rossi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 유 해 sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. The supporters of Bayer 04 Leverkusen booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Camilo Gisbert didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 47th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Horácio Rossi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. The crowd rose to their feet as Cristian Sancho kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Horácio Rossi. That made the score 1-2 in the 76 minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Bayer 04 Leverkusen's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Horácio Rossi came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 84th match minute, Bayer 04 Leverkusen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by 김 추 to maneuver through the defense. 85 minutes into the match, Bayer 04 Leverkusen's goalkeeper Horácio Rossi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Sancho. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from 유 해, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. Horácio Rossi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 94th minute of play. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
