In the 7th minute of the game Emmanuel Reyes made a throw-in which Luz Tejedor played forward. After having played for 14 minutes, Stefanos Terzopoulos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Esmeraldas S.C.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Stefanos Terzopoulos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Aguinaga Nebot took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Julian Murillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 20 minutes into the match, Esmeraldas S.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Eliseo Mina came free, but Aguinaga Nebot reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 24 minutes into the match, Esmeraldas S.C.'s Stefanos Terzopoulos sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rolando Noboa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 26th match minute, Esmeraldas S.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marc Pringle to maneuver through the defense. Damian Maftei fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rolando Noboa having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julian Murillo in the 31st minute of play forced Esmeraldas S.C.'s goalkeeper Aguinaga Nebot to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 35 minutes into the match, Joaquin Prats notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Esmeraldas S.C.'s Aguinaga Nebot. Aguinaga Nebot was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 40th minute the ball was on its way in behind Esmeraldas S.C.'s goalkeeper Aguinaga Nebot, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Peru's supporters rose to their feet, but Julian Murillo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Aguinaga Nebot breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Esmeraldas S.C.'s Stefanos Terzopoulos got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Peru's Rolando Noboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Damian Maftei in the 69th minute of play. In the 74th minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aguinaga Nebot saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 76th minute the ball was on its way in behind Esmeraldas S.C.'s goalkeeper Aguinaga Nebot, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Rolando Noboa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Stefanos Terzopoulos, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Milagros Fraga could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 83rd minute of the match, but Aguinaga Nebot made a huge save. Peru made a substitution. Eliseo Alcocer replaced Moises Gayoso. Peru's Antonio Tenorio was substituted for Luz Tejedor. In the 86th minute of the match Peru got a corner. Esmeraldas S.C.'s goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Eliseo Mina ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Peru's Rafael Gallo to a score. 0-3 in the 86th minute. Damian Maftei sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Milagros Fraga came free with the goalkeeper in the 95th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Aguinaga Nebot could save by the left post. When the match clock showed 97 minutes, the score became 0-4 when Alonso Berganza sped through Esmeraldas S.C.'s defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Aguinaga Nebot.
