With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cândido Petri in the 39th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Pedro Manzanares saved Colombia from getting behind. In the 43rd minute Axel Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jeronimo Cresconio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Through an outstanding action, after 53 minutes, Jeronimo Cresconio successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cândido Petri in the 55th minute of play forced Colombia's goalkeeper Pedro Manzanares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
