Ninjas in Pyjamas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ecuador the free kick. In the 8th match minute, Ninjas in Pyjamas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cătălin Perișoară to maneuver through the defense. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Felix Montenegro got a free kick in the 12th minute. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 16th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Ninjas in Pyjamas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sorin Tăgorean didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cătălin Perișoară might have been able to make a better finish in the 21st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cătălin Perișoară ran back to his position shaking his head. Aron Neculce showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 24th minute of the match. After 25 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Camilo Gisbert. Julio Vera was a little too slow when Petru Angheloiu got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 31st minute. The score was now 1-0. A collision led to Ninjas in Pyjamas getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Petru Angheloiu hit a great ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Camilo Gisbert made in the 54th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Luis Andino however managed to control. Sol Campbell's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sol Campbell helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Ninjas in Pyjamas's Sol Campbell got a free kick in the 56th minute. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aron Neculce having to interfere. Aron Neculce didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Agustín Saelices went, in the 64th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Petru Angheloiu in the 69th minute of the match. 78 minutes into the match, Daniel Zorita notched a goal, 2-2, to the right of Ninjas in Pyjamas's Aron Neculce. Aron Neculce was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Felix Montenegro's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Aron Neculce read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 80th minute of play. When Cornel Surdilă fell near the penalty area in the 81st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ninjas in Pyjamas's protests and gave Cornel Surdilă a yellow card for diving instead. A hard shot 93 in the game by Daniel Zorita from a close distance when the talented Aron Neculce managed to make a qualified save. Ninjas in Pyjamas's players were relieved. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Aron Neculce didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador.
