After taking down the ball on Greencard's corner Karl Kornilov fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Julio Vera quite easily take care of the ball. After having played for 17 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Nanang Wardhana took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Agustín Saelices, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Immanuel Mandias in the 22nd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 24th minute Felix Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nanang Wardhana saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Antonio Arias was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Immanuel Mandias in the 29th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Immanuel Mandias in the 31st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Nanang Wardhana showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 32nd minute of the match. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 35th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. In the 39th minute, Tora Suarlan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Greencard was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Santo Harriet didn't get a good kick on the ball. Daniel Zorita's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nanang Wardhana read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 46th minute of play. Nanang Wardhana stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Daniel Zorita's shot from short distance in the 47th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off.
