The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

A well-hit corner resulted in Luis Andino heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Julio Vera showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball.
