Dorian Linares hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. Vito Travassos's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Diamantino Arruda read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 13th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Eugênio Gonçalves during the 16th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 16th minute, one of São Paulo F.C.:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for São Paulo F.C.. In the 20th minute, Ronaldo Crispín made a precise shot to the right of Diamantino Arruda. Sosoco FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Vito Travassos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ronaldo Crispín fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Diamantino Arruda having to interfere. Diamantino Arruda showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ronaldo Crispín, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. If Ronaldo Crispín had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sosoco FC's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal.
