Erland Söderberg was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 24th minute Agustín Saelices shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Erland Söderberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 30th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Fomac FK's Erland Söderberg played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 35th minute of play. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 37 minutes into the match, Fomac FK's Rikard Smefeldt sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. A collision led to Fomac FK getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Rikard Smefeldt hit a great ball. The supporters of Fomac FK booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Camilo Gisbert didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 45 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 47th minute Flóki Ólafsson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Agustín Saelices's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Erland Söderberg read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 52nd minute of play. Julio Vera didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Flóki Ólafsson went, in the 57th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. When Agustín Saelices came up free with the goalie in the 60th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Agustín Saelices couldn't finish the play. In the 63rd minute, Daniel Zorita left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cristian Sancho might have been able to make a better finish in the 69th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Erland Söderberg. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cristian Sancho ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rikard Smefeldt in the 76th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 78th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Fomac FK made a substitution. Peder Rolfsson replaced Flóki Ólafsson. Rikard Smefeldt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Peder Rolfsson in the 94th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. After having played for 96 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Fomac FK throughout the match.
