The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Luis Andino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. In the 8th minute, Jagiellonia Denver got a penalty, and Ricardo Gareca placed the ball unsaveable into goal, by the right post. 12 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Hélio Donatello. Jagiellonia Denver's Hélio Donatello was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 15th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Ecuador's defense didn't have a chance, in the 22nd minute, when Cacá Čačak scored to the left of an out of position Julio Vera, making the score, 3-0. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eric Gary showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luis Andino in the 28th minute of the match. Ecuador's Agustín Saelices was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Eric Gary in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Hélio Donatello fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Cacá Čačak fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. 40 minutes into the match, Jagiellonia Denver's Hélio Donatello sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Julio Vera was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Michal Majdoch showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 4-0 in the 43 minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 4-0.

After having played for 52 minutes, Cacá Čačak managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Jagiellonia Denver's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cacá Čačak was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Hélio Donatello came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the Jagiellonia Denver fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hélio Donatello couldn't finish the play. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Michal Majdoch kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. Felix Montenegro struck a weak shot in the 63rd minute. Eric Gary didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Agustín Saelices in the 68th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Eric Gary prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Felix Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eric Gary having to interfere. Jagiellonia Denver's Özalp Durkaya was substituted for Florence Diaz. In the 73rd minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eric Gary saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cacá Čačak in the 77th minute of the match. Eric Gary was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Felix Montenegro showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 5-1 in the 84 minute of play. Ecuador's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Jagiellonia Denver had won, even though Ecuador had held more of the ball.
