After 21 played minutes Chile got a freekick which was hit by Francisco Carballar. Thiago Pliego made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from João Francisco Freire in the 22nd minute of play. After 26 played minutes Chile got a freekick which was hit by Francisco Carballar. Thiago Pliego showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Francisco Freire, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. Mariano Lacasa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ezequiel Fresco read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 29th minute of play. If Pedro Indiano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ezequiel Fresco took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mariano Lacasa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 40th minute João Francisco Freire shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thiago Pliego saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
