When Valentino Ferrant fell near the penalty area in the 37th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored El Salvador's protests and gave Valentino Ferrant a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Valentino Ferrant got a free kick in the 37th minute. Germano Cano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ricardo Zorita having to interfere.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Moises Fernandino made a kick off. After 54 minutes, Eduardo Trigo mouthed his way into the referee's book.
