Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Francisco Seco in the 11th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Guto Taffarel prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Arlindo de Salles fell near the penalty area in the 12th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored LUIZ PANATO's protests and gave Arlindo de Salles a yellow card for diving instead. Arlindo de Salles hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. 14 minutes into the game, Maximiliano Escribano cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Guto Taffarel was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Guto Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Camilo Franco, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. After 45 minutes of play, Uruguay's Maximiliano Escribano made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Guto Taffarel was left in no man's land by his defense there! Francisco Seco recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 48th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After the first half Uruguay were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zhao Yue Cheng to make the kick off. After a rather tough play, LUIZ PANATO's Damian Urki got a free kick in the 55th minute. Guto Taffarel didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Maximiliano Escribano went, in the 62nd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-3 was the resulting score. In the 65th minute, Tarcisio Diniz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bruno Beldad hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. Aki Guardo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The tension between the Uruguay and the LUIZ PANATO players grew even worse after the yellow card. Damian Urki took the ball and in the 79 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Joaquin Gayoso. Joaquin Gayoso dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-3. 83 minutes into the game, Maximiliano Escribano recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Guto Taffarel. Maximiliano Escribano showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-4. Francisco Seco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Guto Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Aki Guardo came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the LUIZ PANATO fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Aki Guardo couldn't finish the play. Uruguay's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
