The coaching staff of U. de Tarapacá protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Zheng Ning Peng had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Ariel Balboa had in the 95thth minute some difficulties stopping Jenson Smith's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. USA were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
