Isidoro Sarmiento took the ball and in the 16 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Nildo Braga. Nildo Braga didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Tomas Berganza went, in the 20th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. The supporters of Tio Patinhas booed when Panama was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomas Berganza didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marcos Cotilla took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulo Renato Valladares, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tio Patinhas's Nildo Braga played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abraham Alguacil in the 29th minute of play. Marcos Cotilla made an important save on a dangerous shot by Geraldo Miranda in the 30th minute. Nildo Braga was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The Tio Patinhas players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Panama were winning 1-3.

The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tomas Berganza during the 91st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 91 played minutes Panama got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Berganza. In the 92nd minute, Geraldo Miranda made a precise shot to the right of Marcos Cotilla. Panama's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-3. After 96 played minutes Tio Patinhas got a freekick which was hit by Hortêncio Ribeiro. Panama's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
