Mexico's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Robert Przybylski was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Dante Lacasa was out of position in the 45 minute of play, and Robert Przybylski capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Robert Przybylski really showed his touch with that goal: 3-1. When Joel Gaona came up free with the goalie in the 47th minute, the Mexico fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Joel Gaona couldn't finish the play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Joel Gaona stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Exército Português's zone, Alberto Tafalla stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Petruț Dicu came out of the goal and Alberto Tafalla tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 52 minutes into the match, Exército Português's goal looked a bit too open when Luca Zorita came free, but Petruț Dicu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 55th minute Luca Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Petruț Dicu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 62 minutes into the game, Robert Przybylski cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-1. Dante Lacasa was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Abel Carvalhais kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. In the 74th minute Robert Przybylski shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Lacasa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Facundo Cadaval fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Petruț Dicu having to interfere. Exército Português made a substitution. Eliseu Fragoso replaced Ian Van Den Driessche. Petruț Dicu made a fantastic save in the 90th minute, when Alberto Tafalla sent off a good shot on target. In the 94th minute Robert Przybylski shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Lacasa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alberto Tafalla struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Petruț Dicu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mexico. For all the effort they put into the match, the Mexico players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Exército Português.
