After 3 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Patricio Costa. Danilo Urbasa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Illescas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 8 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Illescas. 11 minutes into the match, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Danilo Urbasa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Patricio Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Toro Cavenaghi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Jonathan Ferrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Rufio Abalos came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Acheral fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rufio Abalos couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Acheral booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guillermo Mariano didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant got control of the ball when Ian Rush tried to sneak it across the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Tomas Illescas managed to get in a good position for a shot. Venezuela's supporters rose to their feet, but Tomas Illescas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Danilo Urbasa breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 45 minutes into the game, Patricio Costa was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Venezuela's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Acheral the free kick. After 45 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Patricio Costa.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tomas Illescas to strike the kick off in the second half. When Patricio Costa came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Patricio Costa couldn't finish the play. Danilo Urbasa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tomas Illescas's shot from short distance in the 56th minute. In the 58th minute, Tomas Illescas reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Danilo Urbasa. The goal made the score 0-1. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Acheral was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vivien Beaurepaire didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 77 played minutes Acheral got a freekick which was hit by Eloy Perutxo. When Venezuela's Tomas Illescas in the 81st minute got a chance for a shot 81st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Acheral's goalie prevented a goal. Vivien Beaurepaire hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. In the 84th minute Tomas Illescas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Danilo Urbasa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tomas Illescas got free with Danilo Urbasa in the 95th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Venezuela eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
