An unexpectedly hard shot by Felix Montenegro in the 12th minute of play forced Sporting Burgas's goalkeeper Álvaro Perpiñán to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 16th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Álvaro Perpiñán saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 22ndth minute of the game Cristian Sancho who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sporting Burgas's Álvaro Perpiñán was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Davor Šuker's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 30th minute of play. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Álvaro Perpiñán tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Davor Šuker made a kick off. After 52 played minutes Sporting Burgas got a freekick which was hit by Joel Ferrer. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 62 minutes into the match, Sporting Burgas's Davor Šuker sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vintilă Ghițulescu in the 69th minute of play. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Álvaro Perpiñán having to interfere. After 86 minutes, Oskars Junco mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sporting Burgas and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. Oskars Junco kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. Álvaro Perpiñán took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Ecuador eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
