Fonso Zotillo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luis Andino's shot from short distance in the 4th minute. XV de Piracicaba's Fonso Zotillo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 10th minute of play. Fonso Zotillo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 12th minute of play. 14 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Agustín Saelices sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Fonso Zotillo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 15th minute. The corner led Ecuador's Daniel Zorita to fire away a dangerous shot which Fonso Zotillo despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Fonso Zotillo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 17th minute of play forced XV de Piracicaba's goalkeeper Fonso Zotillo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. XV de Piracicaba's Fonso Zotillo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Felix Montenegro in the 21st minute of play. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Severino Capixaba, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 30th minute, when Severino Capixaba sent off a good shot on target. Cristian Sancho's late challenge caught a XV de Piracicaba's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cristian Sancho helped the player get up and apologised. Fábio Montoia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Daniel Zorita hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. In the 44th minute, Ecuador's Primitivo Andino seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Primitivo Andino the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Ecuador protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Primitivo Andino had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fonso Zotillo having to interfere. Fonso Zotillo made a fantastic save in the 62nd minute, when Agustín Saelices sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Luis Andino got a free kick in the 63rd minute. Agustín Saelices received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Fonso Zotillo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
