America Futebol Clube SP's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nilton Sanches was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Luiz Fábio Leme hit a great ball. 35 minutes into the match, Tomas Illescas notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of America Futebol Clube SP's Zé Pedro de Queirós. Zé Pedro de Queirós was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Zé Pedro de Queirós showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Illescas in the 40th minute of the match. Luiz Fábio Leme charged in rather forcefully in the 46th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Luiz Fábio Leme the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to America Futebol Clube SP getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. In the 64th minute, Paulão Berger hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Zé Pedro de Queirós made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 68th minute of play. After 71 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for America Futebol Clube SP! The goalkeeper, Zé Pedro de Queirós, was totally fooled by Venezuela's Tomas Illescas, who 73 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. 78 minutes into the match, America Futebol Clube SP's goal looked a bit too open when Patricio Costa came free, but Zé Pedro de Queirós reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 80 minutes into the match, Tomas Illescas had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Zé Pedro de Queirós. America Futebol Clube SP's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tomas Illescas was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. After a defensive mix-up in America Futebol Clube SP's zone, Tomas Illescas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Zé Pedro de Queirós came out of the goal and Tomas Illescas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Venezuela booed when America Futebol Clube SP was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulão Berger didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 89 minutes of play, Venezuela's Patricio Costa made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Zé Pedro de Queirós was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a defensive mix-up in America Futebol Clube SP's zone, Patricio Costa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Zé Pedro de Queirós came out of the goal and Patricio Costa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 93rd minute the ball was on its way in behind America Futebol Clube SP's goalkeeper Zé Pedro de Queirós, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The America Futebol Clube SP fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Venezuela were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
