The supporters of Black Rose 1979 booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Montenegro didn't get a good kick on the ball. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gerardo Hitz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Cristian Sancho's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Karl-Johan Ahlqvist was relentless in the 30th minute of the game. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Waldemar Matorin, who was totally free with the ball in the 50th minute. With a little luck, Black Rose 1979's Karl-Johan Ahlqvist got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. A nice corner shot did that Daniel Zorita got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Karl-Johan Ahlqvist quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Sebastian Enekoitz kicked well hit freekick during the 61st minute of the match. Cristian Sancho blasted a shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Karl-Johan Ahlqvist having to make a save. Black Rose 1979's Gerardo Hitz got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Karl-Johan Ahlqvist made a fantastic save in the 76th minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Karl-Johan Ahlqvist tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
