The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 3 minutes of play, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Renato Vargas was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of Sporting Clube de Gaya booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomas Illescas didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 10th minute, Lucílio Figueiras left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sporting Clube de Gaya fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Camilo Gaos kicked well hit freekick during the 17th minute of the match. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lucílio Figueiras in the 22nd minute of play. In the 23rd minute Lucílio Figueiras shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lucílio Figueiras got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ahmet Koralp Tükel charged in rather forcefully in the 28th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ahmet Koralp Tükel the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Sporting Clube de Gaya getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Ahmet Koralp Tükel hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 36th minute of play forced Sporting Clube de Gaya's goalkeeper Renato Vargas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 39th minute of the match, Fredy Montero got a very nice opportunity to score, but Jonathan Ferrant was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Lucílio Figueiras had several of the Venezuela's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 39 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 3-1 score and a disappointed Jonathan Ferrant as he didn't even see the shot coming. 42 minutes into the game, Virgílio Portugal was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sporting Clube de Gaya's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Venezuela the free kick. Renato Vargas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Illescas in the 44th minute of the match. Jose Correa's late challenge caught a Sporting Clube de Gaya's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jose Correa helped the player get up and apologised. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 4-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tomas Illescas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Patricio Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tomas Illescas got free with Renato Vargas in the 62nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 66th minute, Ahmet Koralp Tükel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Venezuela's Tomas Illescas got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Lucílio Figueiras, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 73 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Jonathan Ferrant was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Fredy Montero fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. In the 78th minute, Lucílio Figueiras ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jonathan Ferrant was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-1. A collision led to Sporting Clube de Gaya getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Silvano Garcez hit a great ball. The supporters of Sporting Clube de Gaya booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Correa didn't get a good kick on the ball.
