After some careless play in the La Scaloneta defense, Daniel Zorita kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dibag Martinez. The La Scaloneta fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dibag Martinez should have stopped the shot. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leandro Paredes in the 34th minute of play. After 38 minutes La Scaloneta's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. The corner led Ecuador's Agustín Saelices to fire away a dangerous shot which Dibag Martinez despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Lion Messi during the 39th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Lion Messi hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lautaro Martinez in the 91st minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 93rd minute Lautaro Martinez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The La Scaloneta players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
