Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Ruben Wilza tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Velichko Rakadzhiev in the 37th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. In the 96th minute of the match Liverpool Fans got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Godfredo Mel ran over to the corner to take the kick. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Liverpool Fans were victorious despite being under pressure from Ecuador for much of the match.
