Celestino Eli hit a great freekick 2 minutes into the match. Dante Lacasa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Angelo Grabiel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 9 minutes into the match, River de Ramos Mejía's goal looked a bit too open when Joel Gaona came free, but Eleuterio Maureo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luca Zorita in the 11th minute of play forced River de Ramos Mejía's goalkeeper Eleuterio Maureo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eleuterio Maureo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joel Gaona, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. In the 14th minute of the match Mexico got a corner. River de Ramos Mejía's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Joel Gaona ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Joel Gaona almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but River de Ramos Mejía's Eleuterio Maureo did a great save. After 15 minutes River de Ramos Mejía's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Joel Gaona who took care of the corner kick. In the 18th minute Joel Gaona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eleuterio Maureo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 21 minutes into the game, Alejo Maties cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Dante Lacasa was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Dante Lacasa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Angelo Grabiel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With an all-out effort, River de Ramos Mejía's Dante Lacasa threw himself towards the right post 26 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Angelo Grabiel, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. When Mexico's Lautaro Mancebo in the 30th minute got a chance for a shot 30th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye River de Ramos Mejía's goalie prevented a goal. In the 31st minute, Lautaro Mancebo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A well done corner resulted in Adriano Fontana drilling the ball in to score 2-1 behind Mexico's goalkeeper. River de Ramos Mejía's Eleuterio Maureo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lautaro Mancebo in the 43rd minute of play. In the 44th minute, Joel Gaona got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 45 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Lautaro Mancebo. Joel Gaona fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eleuterio Maureo having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Joel Gaona stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in River de Ramos Mejía's zone, Joel Gaona stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eleuterio Maureo came out of the goal and Joel Gaona tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Lautaro Mancebo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mexico's supporters rose to their feet, but Lautaro Mancebo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eleuterio Maureo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Eleuterio Maureo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lautaro Mancebo in the 52nd minute. Eleuterio Maureo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joel Gaona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 54th minute Mexico were awarded a corner. Joel Gaona went to the cornerflag to take it. Dante Lacasa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alejo Maties in the 58th minute of the match. Eleuterio Maureo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. In the 61st minute, Joel Gaona got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Joel Gaona sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Joel Gaona had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Angelo Grabiel blasted a shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Dante Lacasa having to make a save. 79 minutes into the match, Joel Gaona had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Eleuterio Maureo. River de Ramos Mejía's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Joel Gaona was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. Dante Lacasa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Christian Weets in the 82nd minute of play. Alberto Tafalla fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eleuterio Maureo having to interfere. Lautaro Mancebo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eleuterio Maureo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 87th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Joel Gaona managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mexico's supporters rose to their feet, but Joel Gaona was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eleuterio Maureo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Eleuterio Maureo made a fantastic save in the 93rd minute, when Lautaro Mancebo sent off a good shot on target.
