After 13 minutes, Ermegildo Calvino mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Lugano Futbol and the El Salvador players grew even worse after the yellow card. El Salvador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Abram Luque was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Lorenzo Yepes kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. After having played for 24 minutes, Ildefonso Herena managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. In a very dangerous position, a player in Lugano Futbol fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 39th minute. Penalty! In the 42nd minute Moises Fernandino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Feliciano Elodio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 43rd minute, Moises Fernandino got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Moises Fernandino to make the kick off. Mateo Leguizamo was slow to take the kick. During this time El Salvador's players had a chance to rest. El Salvador's Mateo Leguizamo was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Feliciano Elodio in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Feliciano Elodio made a fantastic save in the 61st minute, when Moises Fernandino sent off a good shot on target. Ildefonso Herena sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Feliciano Elodio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Abram Luque, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ildefonso Herena in the 94th minute of play forced El Salvador's goalkeeper Ricardo Zorita to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
