In the 16th minute 孔磊傲 shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 19th minute, Cristian Sancho left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Club Brugge's Stein Spoelberch played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 23rd minute of play. Stein Spoelberch was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Stein Spoelberch made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 51st minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Stein Spoelberch in the 51st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from King Eken in the 54th minute of the match. Cristian Sancho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 56th minute of the match, but Stein Spoelberch made a huge save. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Stein Spoelberch tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Stein Spoelberch was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Daniel Zorita showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-3 in the 73 minute of play. After 78 minutes, Pieter Van Landewijck mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Club Brugge and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. Luis Andino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Stein Spoelberch having to interfere. With an all-out effort, Ecuador's Stein Spoelberch threw himself towards the right post 90 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Cristian Sancho, which otherwise would have been placed in the net.
