Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emiliano Lesardo in the 5th minute of play. Emiliano Lesardo made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 6thth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Jonathan Ferrant would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. In the 8th minute Afonso Naveda collided with an opponent which caused him a fractured collar bone. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Patricio Costa got a free kick in the 10th minute. Jonathan Ferrant made an important save on a dangerous shot by Emiliano Lesardo in the 12th minute. Emiliano Lesardos short, quick shot in the 19thth minute got Jonathan Ferrant to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 20th minute, Patricio Costa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Tomas Illescas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 29th minute, Emiliano Lesardo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Estudiantes de Merida FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Emiliano Lesardo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jonathan Ferrant breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The Venezuela fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Bambang Sagala showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Illescas in the 40th minute of the match. Bambang Sagala showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Patricio Costa, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Bambang Sagala tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Patricio Costa in the 51st minute of play forced Estudiantes de Merida FC's goalkeeper Bambang Sagala to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 52nd minute, Patricio Costa fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Bambang Sagala, passed just outside the right post. Jonathan Ferrant stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Emiliano Lesardo's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. In the 57th minute, Marcelino Quinten hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. Lando Morais recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 64th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. During the 66th minute of the match Patricio Costa completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Patricio Costa a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Patricio Costa got a free kick in the 66th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Venezuela's zone, Honorio Lario stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal and Honorio Lario tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bambang Sagala made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 68th minute of play. In the 72nd minute, Jose Correa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 76th minute, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-2. 80 minutes into the game, Emiliano Lesardo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Jonathan Ferrant was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Jose Correa's late challenge caught a Estudiantes de Merida FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jose Correa helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Estudiantes de Merida FC booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Correa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tomas Illescas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
