But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. 19 minutes into the match, Sinbosteros's goal looked a bit too open when Felix Montenegro came free, but Maximiliano Tab reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. 33 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ariel Alfonso. Felix Montenegro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Maximiliano Tab having to make a save. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Sinbosteros booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luis Andino didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 76th minute, Uriel Mikeldi left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sinbosteros fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vicente Eyague during the 80th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 81 played minutes Sinbosteros got a freekick which was hit by Vicente Eyague. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 83rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 92nd minute, Daniel Zorita left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Maximiliano Tab having to interfere. The Sinbosteros players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
