After 4 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Daniel Zorita. Manuel Lajoie showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tudor Caragea, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tudor Caragea got free with Julio Vera in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The corner led Ecuador's Cristian Sancho to fire away a dangerous shot which Manuel Lajoie despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tudor Caragea in the 35th minute of play. Evgeniy Babich fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. In the 46th minute Lazarus Kurmann shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Evgeniy Babich sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Felix Montenegro made in the 54th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by FC Werdenberg's Ferdinand Lobonț. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tudor Caragea in the 73rd minute of play. In the 74th minute FC Werdenberg were awarded a corner. Simon Gunnarsson went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led to FC Werdenberg's Volker Unger getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. After 78 minutes, Diego Miranda mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FC Werdenberg and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 79 played minutes FC Werdenberg got a freekick which was hit by Diego Miranda. Lazarus Kurmann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. In the 83rd minute, Diego Miranda hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ecuador's Agustín Saelices suffered a concussion in the 84th minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. Tudor Caragea charged in rather forcefully in the 84th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Tudor Caragea the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 85th match minute, FC Werdenberg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tudor Caragea to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 87 minutes, Tudor Caragea managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Werdenberg's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tudor Caragea was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 95th minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
