In the 5th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Montes Quevedo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 10 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Montes Quevedo made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. The Ecuador fans' excitement grew in the 16th match minute when Ecuador's Felix Montenegro looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After 25 played minutes Fetiyerd got a freekick which was hit by Fernan Arraz. Fernan Arraz hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. In the 29th minute, Cristian Sancho made a precise shot to the right of Montes Quevedo. Fetiyerd's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-3. In the 38th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Severiano Rua fell near the penalty area in the 41st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fetiyerd's protests and gave Severiano Rua a yellow card for diving instead. Severiano Rua hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Montes Quevedo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Fernan Arraz during the 47th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 47th minute, Fernan Arraz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Severiano Rua in the 59th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Severiano Rua spun around in front of the goal 59 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of Ecuador's goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 61st minute, Severiano Rua managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fetiyerd's supporters rose to their feet, but Severiano Rua was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aurelio Rivas in the 64th minute of play. 69 minutes into the match, Fetiyerd's goalkeeper Montes Quevedo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. In the 70th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Severiano Rua, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. After having played for 76 minutes, Fernan Arraz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Fetiyerd's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fernan Arraz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Fetiyerd made a substitution. Oliverios Astudillo replaced Vinicio Carballeira. In the 82ndth minute of the game Aurelio Rivas who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Severiano Rua, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 88 minutes into the game, Fetiyerd's Aurelio Rivas nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Julio Vera made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aurelio Rivas in the 91st minute of play. Montes Quevedo made a fantastic save in the 93rd minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. The Fetiyerd supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Ecuador's performance. The match ended with a win for Ecuador.
