An unexpectedly hard shot by Dimitris Fragou in the 11th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Soulis Vamvakousis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 15th minute of the match. After 18 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Nasos Venetidis who took care of the corner kick. Aris Kasnaferis hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. Soulis Vamvakousis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 23rd minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. meteora 1929's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Daniel Zorita fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Soulis Vamvakousis quite easily take care of the ball. After some careless play in the meteora 1929 defense, Daniel Zorita kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Soulis Vamvakousis. The meteora 1929 fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Soulis Vamvakousis should have stopped the shot. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute of the match, Agustín Saelices tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Soulis Vamvakousis saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Dimitris Fragou was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Soulis Vamvakousis having to interfere.
