Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) FC Pepsi's Joshua Sammut Castelletti started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience thought a goal was coming when Joshua Sammut Castelletti got free with Julio Vera in the 5th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Joshua Sammut Castelletti took the ball and in the 7 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Agustín Saelices might have been able to make a better finish in the 13th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Paul Holmstedt. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Agustín Saelices ran back to his position shaking his head. Kurt Lundin could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 15th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. When Felix Montenegro came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Felix Montenegro couldn't finish the play. Paul Holmstedt showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 22nd minute of the match. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paul Holmstedt having to interfere. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 28th minute. Through an outstanding action, after 31 minutes, Julio Vera successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. 32 minutes into the match, FC Pepsi's goal looked a bit too open when Agustín Saelices came free, but Paul Holmstedt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Paul Holmstedt showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 43 minutes into the match, Kurt Lundin dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Julio Vera, 2-0. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lv Yuan Kuan in the 57th minute of play. After having played for 58 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 64th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 66 minutes into the match, FC Pepsi's goalkeeper Paul Holmstedt had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Lv Yuan Kuan's shot from short distance in the 72nd minute. FC Pepsi's Kanu Kanu was substituted for Lv Yuan Kuan. After 75 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Alf Klint who took care of the corner kick. Bruno Lucente was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Bruno Lucente's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 75th minute of play. In the 76th minute, Kanu Kanu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, FC Pepsi's Joshua Sammut Castelletti got a free kick in the 82nd minute. After 89 minutes FC Pepsi's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. Juan Sebastián Puig was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joshua Sammut Castelletti in the 93rd minute of play. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 94th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
