An unexpectedly hard shot by Loukianos Livas in the 28th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 77th minute Simão Boaventura shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ponte do Carro's Ricardo Peixoto was substituted for Gregório Jesus. Rigoberto Mina's late challenge caught a Ponte do Carro's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rigoberto Mina helped the player get up and apologised. In the 83rd match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rigoberto Mina to maneuver through the defense. Ponte do Carro's Loukianos Livas managed to work through Venezuela's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Loukianos Livas dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. After a defensive mix-up in Venezuela's zone, Manuel Carvalhal stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal and Manuel Carvalhal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Loukianos Livas in the 91st minute of the match. In the 93rdth minute of the game Loukianos Livas who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Patricio Costa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Venezuela's supporters rose to their feet, but Patricio Costa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Armindo Maltez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
