Carlos Alberto Soares could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 28th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. 30 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Carlos Alberto Soares came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 33rd minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Reko Nybacka saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 35th minute of play forced Catugi FC's goalkeeper Reko Nybacka to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 36 minutes had been played when some careless play by Catugi FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. Carlos Alberto Soares's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Carlos Alberto Soares helped the player get up and apologised. Reko Nybacka showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 40th minute of the match. Reko Nybacka came out of the goal in the 43rd minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Cristian Sancho. But to his dismay, Cristian Sancho quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. After 47 played minutes Catugi FC got a freekick which was hit by Walmir Pombal. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Daniel Zorita to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlos Alberto Soares in the 56th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Alberto Soares in the 63rd minute of the match. Erik Sanches charged in rather forcefully in the 66th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Erik Sanches the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 66th match minute, Catugi FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Erik Sanches to maneuver through the defense. Reko Nybacka was a little too slow when Daniel Zorita got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 69th minute. The score was now 0-2. Reko Nybacka made a fantastic save in the 72nd minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Walmir Pombal kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. In the 89th minute, Cristian Sancho made a precise shot to the right of Reko Nybacka. Catugi FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-3. After 92 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Antonio Arias. 94 minutes into the match, Catugi FC's goalkeeper Reko Nybacka had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Sancho. 95 minutes into the game, Luis Andino recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Reko Nybacka. Luis Andino showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-4. When the final whistle sounded Ecuador left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Catugi FC.
