Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 2nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 6 minutes Greenbay's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. Eugen Remus made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 9th minute of play. Eugen Remus came out of the goal in the 10th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Agustín Saelices. But to his dismay, Agustín Saelices quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eugen Remus having to interfere. Agustín Saelices took the ball and in the 23 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Eugen Remus. Eugen Remus dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Eugen Remus showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. In the 40th minute, Pau Torres hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Greenbay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pau Torres didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Luis Andino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The audience was convinced that Vecdi Başesgioğlu's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 74th minute of the game. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 75th minute of the match, but Eugen Remus made a huge save.
