Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Denis Oprescu in the 37th minute of the match. Agustín Saelices fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Daniel Jienescu having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pedro Jerrold in the 46th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ecuador's Julio Vera tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Bhadrayu Sethi's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Bhadrayu Sethi helped the player get up and apologised. Bhadrayu Sethi hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. 83 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when João Gaúcho came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 84 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner.
