The Ostrália fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Luiz Fernando Linares should have stopped the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Eskild Parbjerg in the 21st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. Luiz Fernando Linares showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 23rd minute of the match. Ostrália's Eskild Parbjerg got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Denílson Gaúcho hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Felix Montenegro in the 28th minute of play forced Ostrália's goalkeeper Luiz Fernando Linares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 29th match minute, Ostrália was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Chiquinho de Amaral to maneuver through the defense.
