The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Joaquin Otoniel hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. Moises Fernandino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Luisito Pietro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 14th match minute, El Salvador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lorenzo Yepes to maneuver through the defense. Alfredo Stephen, 16 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. El Salvador's attentive Valentino Ferrant managed to snatch the ball when Leonardo Jesco made a throw-in in the 20th minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in River Plate's zone, Valentino Ferrant stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Luisito Pietro came out of the goal and Valentino Ferrant tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. El Salvador's defense didn't have a chance, in the 29th minute, when Silvano Jurdan scored to the left of an out of position Ricardo Zorita, making the score, 2-0. Tobias Kaxen received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Ricardo Zorita came out and tried to block the shot, but Tobias Kaxen slotted it home off the left post making it 3-0 in the 34th minute. After 37 played minutes El Salvador got a freekick which was hit by Mateo Leguizamo. In the 41st minute, El Salvador's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Tobias Kaxen fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Silvano Jurdan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After a defensive mix-up in El Salvador's zone, Silvano Jurdan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ricardo Zorita came out of the goal and Silvano Jurdan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 43 minutes into the match, El Salvador's goalkeeper Ricardo Zorita had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tobias Kaxen. In the 45th minute, River Plate's Silvano Jurdan ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Ricardo Zorita. Ricardo Zorita yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 4-0. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

In the 54th match minute, El Salvador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marco Tamayo to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tobias Kaxen in the 56th minute of play forced El Salvador's goalkeeper Ricardo Zorita to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ricardo Zorita showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tobias Kaxen, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. After 62 minutes, Marco Tamayo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the El Salvador and the River Plate players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 62 played minutes El Salvador got a freekick which was hit by Marco Tamayo. A collision led to El Salvador getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Marco Tamayo hit a great ball. When Silvano Jurdan came up free with the goalie in the 67th minute, the River Plate fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Silvano Jurdan couldn't finish the play. 69 minutes into the match, Tobias Kaxen had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ricardo Zorita. El Salvador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tobias Kaxen was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-0. In the 73rd minute, Lorenzo Yepes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Marco Tamayo got his second yellow card in the match during the 79th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. The supporters of River Plate booed when El Salvador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marco Tamayo didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 81st minute of the match Teo Gervaso sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ricardo Zorita skillfully saved the ball. Ricardo Zorita made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tobias Kaxen in the 83rd minute of play. In the 84th match minute, El Salvador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abram Luque to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in El Salvador's zone, Tobias Kaxen stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ricardo Zorita came out of the goal and Tobias Kaxen tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 87 minutes into the game, Lorenzo Yepes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. El Salvador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave River Plate the free kick. Lorenzo Yepes kicked well hit freekick during the 87th minute of the match. In the 88th minute the ball was on its way in behind El Salvador's goalkeeper Ricardo Zorita, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Mateo Leguizamo hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. River Plate's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
