Laurențiu Gaciu was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Benjamin de Lara managed to get in a good position for a shot. SC Braga's supporters rose to their feet, but Benjamin de Lara was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Laurențiu Gaciu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Laçın Cumayev showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Armando Meireles, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. Exército Português were awarded a corner in the 23th minute after SC Braga's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Gustavo Carrasqueira took the corner. In the 29th minute of the match, Armando Meireles got a very nice opportunity to score, but Laçın Cumayev was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Stig-Åke Mattsson in the 35th minute of play forced Exército Português's goalkeeper Laurențiu Gaciu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 41st minute Benjamin de Lara shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Laurențiu Gaciu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Laçın Cumayev made an important save on a dangerous shot by Armando Meireles in the 46th minute. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Exército Português's Laurențiu Gaciu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Benjamin de Lara in the 57th minute of play. Gustavo Carrasqueira took the ball and in the 59 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Laçın Cumayev. Laçın Cumayev dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Laçın Cumayev showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Armando Meireles in the 65th minute of the match. SC Braga's Zigmantas Gimbutas was substituted for Stig-Åke Mattsson. A collision led to Exército Português getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Robert Przybylski hit a great ball. Laurențiu Gaciu made an important save on a dangerous shot by Zigmantas Gimbutas in the 68th minute. After some careless play in the Exército Português defense, Zigmantas Gimbutas kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Laurențiu Gaciu. The Exército Português fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Laurențiu Gaciu should have stopped the shot. Zigmantas Gimbutas in the 76thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Laurențiu Gaciu, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Laçın Cumayev showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Armando Meireles in the 81st minute of the match. In the 83rd minute of the match Exército Português got a corner. SC Braga's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gustavo Carrasqueira ran over to the corner to take the kick. After 85 played minutes Zigmantas Gimbutas rounded Exército Português's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-3. In the 94th match minute, Exército Português was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gustavo Carrasqueira to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zigmantas Gimbutas in the 95th minute of play forced Exército Português's goalkeeper Laurențiu Gaciu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
