Jesus Sayveon showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Julian Murillo in the 13th minute of the match. Eliseo Mina's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jesus Sayveon read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 16th minute of play. In the 17th minute, Julian Murillo made a precise shot to the right of Jesus Sayveon. Athletico Picapedrense's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. A nice corner shot did that Luz Tejedor got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Jesus Sayveon quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Rolando Noboa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hristo Stoichkov, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. 30 minutes into the match, Peru's Julian Murillo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jesus Sayveon narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 34 minutes in the game Horaţiu Crăiță did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Reno Cartagena. Cristo Uria received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Rolando Noboa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Athletico Picapedrense's attentive Juanito Gabucio managed to snatch the ball when Moises Gayoso made a throw-in in the 38th minute of the game. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Athletico Picapedrense's Lorenzo Jubera was substituted for Horaţiu Crăiță. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Julian Murillo was the one to do the kick off. Jesus Sayveon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Murillo in the 53rd minute of play. In the 54th match minute, Peru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Anthony Alvarado to maneuver through the defense. 56 minutes into the game, Athletico Picapedrense's Hristo Stoichkov nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Rolando Noboa made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. In the 63rd minute Hristo Stoichkov shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Athletico Picapedrense's Eloi Fontanella was substituted for Hristo Stoichkov. Peru's attentive Eliseo Mina managed to snatch the ball when Lorenzo Jubera made a throw-in in the 67th minute of the game. Jesus Sayveon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julian Murillo, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. In the 77th minute, Orlondo Aguado ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Rolando Noboa was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Milagros Fraga came free with the goalkeeper in the 82nd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Jesus Sayveon could save by the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luz Tejedor in the 83rd minute of play forced Athletico Picapedrense's goalkeeper Jesus Sayveon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Peru's Eliseo Alcocer was substituted for Moises Gayoso. Peru made a substitution. Rafael Gallo replaced Julian Murillo. Jesus Sayveon was a little too slow when Antonio Tenorio got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 94th minute. The score was now 2-3. The Athletico Picapedrense supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Peru's performance. The match ended with a win for Peru.
