The corner ended in Seguinus Ortega almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ciano Briz in the 11th minute of play. Ratko Glavak made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 13th minute of play. Daniel Zorita might have been able to make a better finish in the 14th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ratko Glavak. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Daniel Zorita ran back to his position shaking his head. The supporters of Deportivo Municipal booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Camilo Gisbert didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 18th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ratko Glavak saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 55 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 60th match minute, Deportivo Municipal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Solustiano Tramarria to maneuver through the defense. 64 minutes into the match, Cristian Sancho dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Ratko Glavak, 0-1.
