Michel Drogba took the ball and in the 14 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Tarcisio Gerber. Tarcisio Gerber dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. In the 17th minute, Evandro Maia left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The EDI MZB fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. If Michel Shevchenko had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Flavinho Donato in the 25th minute of play forced ADM Taquaras's goalkeeper Décio Marinho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 28 minutes into the game, EDI MZB's Edi Souza nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Décio Marinho made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. When the match clock showed 34 minutes, the score became 2-3 when Michel Drogba sped through EDI MZB's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Tarcisio Gerber. Rui Cabral struck a weak shot in the 37th minute. Tarcisio Gerber didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for ADM Taquaras. Tarcisio Gerber showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Michel Shevchenko in the 39th minute of the match. 40 minutes into the match, EDI MZB's goal looked a bit too open when Michel Shevchenko came free, but Tarcisio Gerber reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 41 minutes of play, ADM Taquaras's Michel Drogba made it 2-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Tarcisio Gerber was left in no man's land by his defense there! Disappointed in the 2-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

In the 57th minute the ball was on its way in behind EDI MZB's goalkeeper Tarcisio Gerber, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The supporters of EDI MZB booed when ADM Taquaras was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Michel Rüdiger didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 62nd minute Michel Drogba shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tarcisio Gerber saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Michel Drogba got free with Tarcisio Gerber in the 66th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Tarcisio Gerber didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 68th minute, which inside left pole to 2-5. 72 minutes into the game, Didi Mesquita was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. EDI MZB's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave ADM Taquaras the free kick.
