Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Komen Grama ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience was convinced that Belmiro Sanches's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gianluigi Donnarumma was relentless in the 5th minute of the game. In the 8th minute Belmiro Sanches shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gianluigi Donnarumma saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Evandro Maia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joélson Paraibano in the 11th minute of play forced EDI MZB's goalkeeper Tarcisio Gerber to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Tarcisio Gerber showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ladislao Mazurkiewicz, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Gianluigi Donnarumma played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sidnei Fernandez in the 15th minute of play. 30 minutes into the match, EDI MZB's goalkeeper Tarcisio Gerber had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Komen Grama. Rubinho Costa hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. Tarcisio Gerber came out of the goal in the 37th minute to try and stop a shot by S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Leopoldo Sanches. But to his dismay, Leopoldo Sanches quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Belmiro Sanches received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Gianluigi Donnarumma tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, EDI MZB's Evandro Maia got a free kick in the 42nd minute. Rubinho Costa hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Belmiro Sanches to make the kick off. In the 51st minute Leopoldo Sanches shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tarcisio Gerber saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Didi Mesquita fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored EDI MZB's protests and gave Didi Mesquita a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to EDI MZB getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Didi Mesquita hit a great ball. Ladislao Mazurkiewicz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 58 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for EDI MZB! Tarcisio Gerber had in the 60thth minute some difficulties stopping Leopoldo Sanches's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Gianluigi Donnarumma proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 62nd minute of the match, managed to save S.E.R. Caxias do Sul from getting a goal against them. EDI MZB's Tarcisio Gerber played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Komen Grama in the 70th minute of play. In the 70th match minute, EDI MZB was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by David Andrade to maneuver through the defense. Tarcisio Gerber showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ladislao Mazurkiewicz in the 76th minute of the match. Tarcisio Gerber took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ladislao Mazurkiewicz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of EDI MZB booed when S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Caio Rosa didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 87 minutes, Joélson Paraibano made it 2-1 with a short kick to the right side. EDI MZB's Tarcisio Gerber tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Belmiro Sanches could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 91st minute of the match, but Gianluigi Donnarumma made a huge save. After 91 played minutes S.E.R. Caxias do Sul got a freekick which was hit by Ladislao Mazurkiewicz. If Belmiro Sanches had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. For all the effort they put into the match, the EDI MZB players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for S.E.R. Caxias do Sul.
