The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The referee gave Ecuador a penalty, 10 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Daniel Zorita, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Artigas's Furtado Codina. 0-1. Agustín Saelices kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. Furtado Codina showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Felix Montenegro in the 16th minute of the match. In the 19th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Furtado Codina saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Julio Vera was a little too slow when Florentino Fidalgo got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 22nd minute. The score was now 1-1. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Florentino Fidalgo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Artigas's Inocencio Celino shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 2-1 in the ordered_time% minute. When Florentino Fidalgo came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Artigas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Florentino Fidalgo couldn't finish the play. In the 43rd minute Florentino Fidalgo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

With a little luck, Artigas's Furtado Codina got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. A throw-in in the 89th minute of the game was made by Camilo Gisbert with Cristian Sancho as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. 91 minutes into the match, Sadurni Nadal notched a goal, 3-2, to the right of Ecuador's Julio Vera. Julio Vera was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Artigas had won after a very even match.
