Qiu Zhi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Monty Rogers in the 8th minute of play. Marco Day made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Thomas Albaret in the 16th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Monty Rogers in the 19th minute of play forced SILMONT's goalkeeper Qiu Zhi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cassius Byrne took the ball and in the 24 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Qiu Zhi. Qiu Zhi dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Adriano Guimarães received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Marco Day tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Qiu Zhi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cassius Byrne, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 33rd minute Monty Rogers shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Qiu Zhi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Martial Haas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 34th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Qiu Zhi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Monty Rogers in the 35th minute of play. When Adriano Guimarães came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the SILMONT fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adriano Guimarães couldn't finish the play. In the 38th minute Cassius Byrne shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Qiu Zhi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Qiu Zhi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Monty Rogers in the 40th minute of the match. Qiu Zhi stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Monty Rogers's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Cassius Byrne was the one to do the kick off. 56 minutes into the match, SILMONT's goal looked a bit too open when Monty Rogers came free, but Qiu Zhi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edward Mcdonald got free with Qiu Zhi in the 66th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Monty Rogers in the 67th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Qiu Zhi prevented the ball from getting in the gole. USA made a substitution. Sam Campbell replaced Cassius Byrne. SILMONT made a substitution. João Carlos Schmidt replaced Freddy Escudié. In the 71st minute of the match USA got a corner. SILMONT's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Monty Rogers ran over to the corner to take the kick. The crowd rose to their feet as USA's Edward Mcdonald slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Qiu Zhi. That made the score 1-3 after 74 minutes of play. After some careless play in the USA defense, Javier Bordat kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Marco Day. The USA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marco Day should have stopped the shot. USA's Khalid Parry was substituted for Monty Rogers. USA's Marco Baker was substituted for Edward Mcdonald. With a little luck, SILMONT's Qiu Zhi got control of the ball when Jenson Smith tried to sneak it across the goal line. Marco Day took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Javier Bordat, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 87 minutes into the match, USA's goal looked a bit too open when Adriano Guimarães came free, but Marco Day reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Qiu Zhi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marco Baker, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. In the 89th minute USA were awarded a corner. Jenson Smith went to the cornerflag to take it. Jenson Smith made a great header on USA's corner, it was just that SILMONT's Qiu Zhi managed to reach the ball for a save. 91 minutes had been played when some careless play by SILMONT's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Jenson Smith was slow to take the kick. During this time USA's players had a chance to rest. After a rather tough play, SILMONT's João Carlos Schmidt got a free kick in the 93rd minute. 95 minutes into the game, Marco Baker recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Qiu Zhi. Marco Baker showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-5. USA played a much better game than SILMONT and deserved their victory. The SILMONT players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
