The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Alan Moruga during the 45th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Alan Moruga hit a great ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Axel Tasis made the kick off in the second half. A sloppy throw-in by Hugo Ferrant in the 55th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by The Blues's André Hurdle. Hugo Ferrant made in the 57th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Lautaro Puig immediately put the ball in play. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Henning Fjordskov in the 60th minute of play. Costa Rica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave The Blues the free kick. In the 90th minute, Efrain Moruga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. The Blues had played much better football throughout.
