Mariano Lacasa scored 0-1 in the 6th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Eduardo Martini, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 9 minutes of play, Chile's Mariano Lacasa made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Eduardo Martini was left in no man's land by his defense there! Luiz Gustavo Leal kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. Mariano Lacasa struck a weak shot in the 21st minute. Eduardo Martini didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Chile. If Mariano Lacasa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Chile's Thiago Pliego proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 28th minute of the match, managed to save Chile from getting a goal against them. Marcus Nilsson made in the 46th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Chile's Felix Garrido. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mariano Lacasa to make the kick off.
