After having played for 5 minutes, Abraham Alguacil managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Panama's supporters crossed their fingers, but Abraham Alguacil was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 8th minute, Abraham Alguacil managed to get in a good position for a shot. Panama's supporters rose to their feet, but Abraham Alguacil was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nicolas Varela breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that Tomas Berganza's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nicolas Varela was relentless in the 23rd minute of the game. After 24 minutes Monte Olimpo's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Abraham Alguacil who took care of the corner kick. A collision led to Panama getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Miguel Miralles hit a great ball. Nicolas Varela showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Berganza in the 27th minute of the match. Marcos Cotilla didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Pipo Inzaghi went, in the 39th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Marcos Cotilla made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Conrado Pimenta in the 45th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Nicolas Varela made an important save on a dangerous shot by Abraham Alguacil in the 51st minute. Marcos Cotilla made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Conrado Pimenta in the 56th minute of play. Monte Olimpo were furious when Anderson Nascimento was red carded, 63 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Berganza in the 71st minute of play forced Monte Olimpo's goalkeeper Nicolas Varela to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Monte Olimpo's Amauri Albuquerque got a free kick in the 75th minute. Tomas Berganza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Nicolas Varela tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Pipo Inzaghi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcos Cotilla having to interfere. 91 minutes into the match, Panama's goal looked a bit too open when Conrado Pimenta came free, but Marcos Cotilla reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Monte Olimpo's zone, Tomas Berganza stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nicolas Varela came out of the goal and Tomas Berganza tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Panama's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
